SemiWest is the world's acknowledged leader in the implementation, emission containment, and use of Solvents- specifically Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Hydrofluoroethers (HFEs), and Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)

SemiWest is committed in assisting our clients with their reduction of Greenhouse Gases Emissions through the use of energy efficient abatement tools, solvent/equipment selection, and process control.

HFCs and HFEs, are commonly used as flame retardants, fire extinguishants, propellants, and most importantly as solvent cleaners. They both are considered Freon (containing chlorine) alternatives, and do not have the negative effects on the environment such as ozone depletion like the chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)

Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and Hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) contain no chlorine. They are composed entirely of carbon, hydrogen, and fluorine. They have no known effects at all on the ozone layer. Only compounds containing chlorine and bromine are thought to harm the ozone layer. Fluorine itself is not ozone-toxic.However, HFCs, HFEs, and perfluorocarbons (PFCs), do have activity in the entirely different realm of greenhouse gases, which do not destroy ozone, but do cause global warming. But these three groups of haloalkanes, Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) and Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), are targets of the Kyoto Protocol.

Based on their 100-year residual effect when released into the atmoshpere, some HFCs and HFEs are up to 12,500 times more potent than carbon dioxide in global warming potential. Wealthy countries are clamping down on these gases. Under Kyoto Protocol, nearly half the credits awarded to date in developing countries are from HFCs/HFEs.  This has presented an ample opportunities for earning credits from the capture and destruction of HFCs/HFEs that would have been otherwise released to the atmosphere as fugitive emissions. SemiWest specializes in assisting such customers with the right choices in equipment, solvent selection, modifications, and process parameters to meet and exceed all requirements necessary in the most cost effective, timely, and environmentally sound manner. In many cases, clients are eligible for registration with the UN and are awarded with tradable certified emission reductions (CER) in the carbon exchanges as returns on the investment.

Here at SemiWest our primary mission is to assist our clients in the right solvent, equipment, and process selection. In doing so we adhere to the most stringent air quality compliance criteria while minimizing GHG emissions as part of the global climate change action, enabling our clients to maintain their Greenhouse Gas reduction commitments and achieve their targets. We assist our clients with cost effective and proven abatement equipment, developed in our Labs here in the Bay Area as well as in Singapore.
